Why shouldn't you install drivers from Windows Update?

I've read that you should avoid installing ThinkPad drivers from Windows Update, and instead download them from the Lenovo web site. Just curious of the reasoning behind that?

Because they often cause more problems than they fix. I've seen network connections not connecting, BSODs, software that worked before, but now does not, etc., all after doing updates. People seem to have this thing where having the latest is the best, but I say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

In setting up my three T60s and one R52 for Windows 7, the Windows Update has worked well.

The T60 units for example received and installed:

AnalogDevices - Audio - SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio
Razer - Input - Habu Mouse
Lenovo - Other hardware - ThinkPad PM Device
Intel - Network - Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection
Lenovo - Display - ThinkPad Display 1400x1050
ATI Technologies Inc. driver update for ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

Other features required a visit to the Lenovo Windows 7 site.

I've had similar success with Vista features from Update.
