PDA/Pocket PC user's?

#1 Post by SaberX » Mon Aug 10, 2009 4:44 pm

Just want to know if there are many Pocket PC or smart phone users running Windows Mobile 2003/5.0/6.0 ect.

I'm looking to put some video movies on a Ipaq running WM2003 Prem OS.
I have a bunch of movies that are AVI / Xvid files. They run about 700 to 800megs each.

I'm looking to get them down to a smaller size.
I have tyred a bunch of free video converters. But they either make the file bigger or change the screen size to where things look flatten.Like watching full screen on a wide screen.

Anyone know of a good video converter that is free.?

Or any other cool or nice to have programs for a pocket pc?

I have a couple of suggestions:

-Google 'Spb' without the apostrophes. They specialize in PDA/Smartphones. They even have a video converter. It's nice but last time I checked didn't do subtitles. I use DVDFab for that :)

-Coreplayer. For Audio and Video. Has a lot more codecs included for audio/video!

-install Opera 8.65. The latest versions of Opera mobile are for WM5.0, 6.1, and above. Believe me IE just isn't good! If you install that I can help you set it up so if you download things they won't get sent to Main Memory.

- PocketRAR

- Cabinstaller - so you can install programs to your SD card saving the PDAs' main memory.

- Palringo. If you don't have a key or Thumb Board don't bother! Your stylus and onscreen keyboard will become your enemy real quick!

- Resco keyboard. For a bigger and manageable onscreen keyboard. I use this when I don't have my Bluetooth keyboard handy.

I've saved programs that I used to use on WM2003SE. I'd have to dig them out so I can recall the faves that I had for that OS.

One other thing is you have a limited amount of memory. In WM2003SE- tapping on the X will not close the program. It will minimize it and will eventually leave you wondering where you're RAM has gone!

In Spb look at Spb today. It allows a pretty nice customization and true closing of programs!

Here are some links for other things:

There are many other free software sites. The links I gave for mobilitysite and htcgeeks are full of guys and gals who can answer all questions regarding PDA's and Smartphones!

Happy trails!

Thanks for the reply with all the info.
Looks like the ipaq i picked up wont handle the SDHC 4gb+ cards.
the ipaq i have is stuck using the WM2003 OS.WM5.0 pr 6.1 needs 128 ram or something like that.Mine has 64.
Not really a big deal as this is my first Pocket PC.

maybe when i get to use this ipaq and find i like it i may get a newer one.But for now i'm still waiting for my two new batteries to show up from e-bay.The old battery wont take any charge and the unit wont turn on with just AC adapter. From what i understand pocket pc(at least ipaq's) need a working battery to turn on.

saber. The highest non-sdhc cards I used to use with my old X30 was a Transcend 4gb. I used to get these from Data Memory Systems. They were a little over ten dollars. I think they might have them in New Egg still. Not sure since I use the high capacity cards more now.

The 4gb non-sdhc Transcends I have are still going strong now though. They also come preformatted.

fyi My Axim has the same amount of RAM yours has- 64mb but I can still run WM6.1.

WM Converter

Totally free. It's what I use to convert videos to load on my phones. Plug in the source file, pick WMV format, then pick quality settings. Might take a few tries to find the balance between quality and lag.

Max size of a non-SDHC card is 4 GB, but most 4 GB are SDHC now that the standard has become more popular.

Aside from that, which iPaq is it? I've run 6.1 standard on an HTC Tornado, and it ran decently despite not having a ton of memory. There may be a stable 6.1 build for you iPaq. If you can get me the model, I'll see what I can find.

Also, if there is a stable 6.1 upgrade, that will most likely add SDHC support
Cell phones are my specialty. Got questions? Ask away.

I don't know that there will be any upgrade for an H4xxx. You'd probably need to go to an H6xxx of some sort. The H69xx series has gotten pretty darn affordable, and even the older ones have WM5. I don't know that WM5 will add the SDHC support though.
