[solved] windows and wep key in hex

#1 Post by Marin85 » Wed Aug 12, 2009 10:36 am

Hi,
just wondering, is there any way under Windows (XP, Vista, 7) to connect to wifi with WEP encryption using the hex form of the WEP key? Maybe cmd ot some third-party utility (AC?) would do the trick?... (In Linux one can do this straight-forward.)

Thanks in advance,

Marin

EDIT: Just discovered, Windows (here 7) can use the hex form right away, but one, of course, has to remove the semicolons

I have to confess being confused by the question. I've had a fair amount of networking stuff in my home systems, and have never had any option but hex entry for the WEP keys!

Art (who really should move to WAP but has been intimidated by the changeover of quite a few computers)

I guess it is just the habit that whenever I have to connect to some WEP-protected wifi under Windows, I am always given the ascii key. Similarly, whenever I have to connect to some WEP-protected wifi under Linux, I need the hex key as the ascii doesn´t want to work for some reason with my card (both in terminal and knetworkmanager)... Anyway, I thought Windows is too user-friendly as to use hex  and 2 minutes later I realized my confusion but wasn´t able to delete my post. So, basically, that´s the story :)

Cheers,

Marin
