How difficult is it to get the screen replaced for dimmness?
How difficult is it to get the screen replaced for dimmness?
I have a R60 with a SXGA+ screen, which I swapped out for a IPS. I purchased a R60e with a XGA screen as a Linux box. I still have old LCD. When I had the screen in my R60 it was noticeably dimmer than 14" R60, which had a 150 nit screen, while the R60 is supposed to have a 200 nit screen. I got to thinking my R60 has on-site warranty. If I could swap back in my old screen maybe I could get them to swap it for a new screen, which I could then put in my R60e. I don't know how difficult it is to get them to swap the screen for dimness as the screen does work. Thanks for any help.

Yes, jamiphar's a great guy. He sold me my IPS screen, but the point is to spend as little money as possible. Thanks for the reply.

I haven't had it done onsite since the days of my first A31p, but depot had swapped several LCDs for brightness issues for me over the last year or so.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Maybe I'll wait until my R60e shows up and gets assembled. Then I can see about getting the screen fixed. Thanks for the replies.

Just in case, swapping out an LCD is quite easy, remove the LCD bezel, remove the screws on both sides on the lid, remove the screws holding the hinges onto the LCD, disconnect the inverter and off you go. 10 minutes max.

With an on-site warranty, fulfillment is more likely. The part will be dispatched and assuming the LCD doesn't blind the tech. (meaning it isn't too bright), it'll be replaced.FredGarvin wrote:...I got to thinking my R60 has on-site warranty...I don't know how difficult it is to get them to swap the screen for dimness as the screen does work...

For me it's more like 30-45 min (1 beer, my normal measure of job difficulty, after 3-4 there is an inverse relationship between difficulty and consumption), but it's not as had as one would think.10 minutes max.

Re: How difficult is it to get the screen replaced for dimmness?
Yeah I don't think I've ever replaced an LCD in 10 minutes....30 to 45 is about right if no problems are encountered.
Re: How difficult is it to get the screen replaced for dimmness?
The first time I did it, it was about an hour for me, but I took the whole LCD off as per the support and training site, which I now know I won't have to do. It doesn't matter anyway. I bought a SXGA+ FlexView on eBay here. Who was bidding against me? I hate to say it, but you got chumped.
You're just going to have to move on with your life. This is turning out to be a nice little project R60e:
R60e - $125
FlexView - $73
T5500 -$ 20
1GB Memory - $4
250GB 7200RPM Drive - $50
Hard Drive Caddy - $4
WiFi Card - $10
All told less than $300. Plus it's in very good cosmetic condition. I can use as my Linux box. I dislike dual-booting. I might pony up and buy a DVD burner if I can buy one at a decent price. Maybe I'll still get the screen replaced and sell it, if it has any value.

The 10 minutes I mentioned were for taking the LCD out.
Reckon about the same time for putting it back in.
Still not much time...
