X200s with ultraconnect 2x2 and intel 5300 card, WWAN

#1 Post by positive » Wed Aug 12, 2009 3:23 pm

Hello,

I ordered an X200s with the ultraconnect 2x2 screen. I purposely bought the 2x2 screen, because I plan to upgrade the screen to an affs, and also add WWAN. The Lenovo description says that the 2x2 screen is "WWAN upgradable", but didn't mention that for the 3x3 screen.

Does the 5300 card require 3 antennas, or just 2? Did I buy the correct screen for WWAN (does it have factory installed WWAN antennas)?

Thanks

The 5300 card requires 3 antennas. If you purchase the screen with camera, then only 2 antennas will be available for the wireless card. If you purchase the screen without camera, then all 3 antennas will be available to the 5300 card.
Bottomline: Get the 5100 card if you need to get the model with camera, as you can't take advantage of all three channel of the 5300 card anyway. Otherwise, get the 5300 card if you can live without camera.
This has no effect on WWAN antennas by the way. IF the model is signaled as WWAN upgradable, then the antennas for WWAN should be there already. You just need to get the WWAN card on your own.
Hope this helps :)

I was just about to post a query why I only saw 2 antenna cables going to my 5300 card while installing my WWAN card. Now I know its because I have the built-in camera....
