in my opinion, those little lack of symetry gives the Thinkpad a more beautiful touch. That is also, why 14" T42 have an edge over the 15"´s.
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it

At first glance, it looks to me like there isn't enough space on the righthand side to accomodate the large hinge on the right side. Does symmetry really matter? The display housing is not symmetrical, the keyboard is not symmetrical, the palmrest is not symmetrical... etc.
