X200s 7469-5GU WWAN compatibility?

#1 Post by JasonPAtkins » Fri Aug 14, 2009 11:23 am

Hi guys! I've been interested to see the posts recently about adding the WWAN/GPS card to X200s'. I have a 7469-5GU that I got on a great deal refurbed from the outlet. It's definitely the nicest TP I've ever had. I work as a missionary in West Africa, and we've just recently gotten data over our cell network (blazing GPRS ;), so I'd love to be able to stick one of those cards in my computer and gain that capability while simultaneously not needing to bring along my Bluetooth GPS receiver!

I've read that some models are listed in the specs on Lenovo's site as WWAN ready meaning they have the antennas. I have the 1440x900 LED backlit screen w/ no camera, and I can't remember exactly which wifi card but I think the 5100AGN. When I look at the spec screen on Lenovo's site (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=74695GU) I don't see WWAN Ready listed anywhere, but I'm not sure where I should be looking (is it just in the machine specs for machines that do have it, along with the memory, processor, etc?).

Is there any way other than opening up my X200s to find out if I could add a card like this, or won't I be able to know until I open it up? I wondered if even though the antennas are there, it wouldn't list WWAN Ready in the spec because originally they didn't offer X200s' with the option. Any opinions, or should I get out my screwdriver?

Thanks!

Well, curiosity wouldn't let me wait. Here's what I saw, which I think unfortunately means I'm out of luck, right? In the lower section (2nd pic) I have three wires: white, gray, and black, two of which are on the 5100 - so since there's no red/blue there, no WWAN for me, right?

Also, curiously, my machine was supposed to have wireless usb, but isn't that supposed to be in the space immediately to the left of the hard drive, where that yellow wire isn't attached to anything?

Thanks for the help!

The white taped up cable should be the 3rd MIMO antenna for WLAN (Intel 5300). In other posts, there have been success using this antenna for a WWAN card.

A suggestion would be to get hold of a Lenovo Ericsson F3507g WWAN card (so that you do not need to mod BIOS), install it and use the white cable as the main antenna (leave the AUX port free). Try to see if you can get a decent connection. With 1 working antenna, it can achieve max 3.6Mbps.

I just took out that card mentioned ^^^^ up there so I could sell it. If you want it let me know.
It had a red wire and a blue wire attached to it.
