AC Adapter Question

#1 Post by jayla » Fri Aug 14, 2009 5:09 pm

Hello everyone,
Both of my AC adapters recently stopped working, and I want to buy a replacement. I have an X40 model Type 382-6uu, and the back of the computer says that the input is 16v---3.5A. I looked at both of the adapters, and the output is 16v---4.5A, so maybe it was too high? I received the computer and adapters used, so I don't know if they were packaged together.

I want to buy a new AC adapter, should I buy one that is 3.5A or 4.5A, or does it matter?

I apologize for such an elementary question, but I am quite confused. Thank you for your time.

It doesn't matter. X40 will be perfectly fine with a 3.5A (56W) adapter, so if you give it a more powerful adapter (4.5A, 72W), it will just not utilize all of it.

It's giving an underpowered adapter than can be risky.
