A20p
I hope somebody can help me out here. I have a ThinkPad A20p. When I power up, the screen stays black. The drives cycle and the only light that is on after that is the circle with the Z. There are no beeps or sounds. I replaced the main board and the LCD power inverter card. I tried conecting to an external monitor and still get nothing. I am out of ideas.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Cmos Battery
I have not tried to replace the CMOS battery. I guess I could, but I thought the computer would still start even if it was dead.
Re: Cmos Battery
No, it can't/won't start with a dead CMOS battery and your symptoms are exactly what I would expect to see if that were the case.Throttle Thumb wrote:I have not tried to replace the CMOS battery. I guess I could, but I thought the computer would still start even if it was dead.

Reseat CPU
I have completely disasembled the thinkpad before. I again, took the CPU out and locked it back in place. I am running out of things to replace, and do. I know the hard drive is good, because I placed it in a USB enclosure and hooked it up to my desktop. The motherboard and LCD power inverter are new. I put in a new CMOS battery. All I have is a black screen and the fan running.
Any other suggestions?

Hello,
sorry, to possibly add to the confusion, but ...
... are You sure, that the backlight/lcd is okay, have You tested Your nb with an external screen?
You said, it started, drives circling, but You did not see anything. I lived up to something rather similar (as symptom) while my A31P was some month old (!). I did not find out, until I happened to recognize, that the screen-lightning had died away...
