T40, 41, 42 or T43
Hello all,
Currently I am using T22 and I love it, except I can NOT add more RAM to it! (has the 512MB max!), and the video and some web sites and programs (Rosetta Stone v3.0) run slow. So I am thinking about T4XX series.
Would you kindly recommend or suggest a model for me? There is a local store that offers 40, 41, 42 and even 43, but I need YOUR opinion on getting the right one. these are the criteria for me:
* having a dedicated graphic card is a plus (although I won't be playing graphic intensive games on it anyway), just powerful enough for video playback, some newer applications (Rosetta Stone v3.0), etc.
* DDR1 vs DDR2? I know T43 has only support for DDR2 and runs hotter than the T42, but can I find DDR1 for T42 easily?
* Is the "P" model a better one? 43p vs 43 or 42p vs. 42?
Thanks in advance!

This question is asked here almost daily, so why reinvent the wheel? See this thread - http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=69997

Thanks, but it still didn't completely resolved my uncertainties: for example I still don't know if the "p" models are better or inferior? Or if the graphics card in T43 are better than the T42?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!

Re: T40, 41, 42 or T43
Hi welcome to the forum
I own both a T41 and T43. The T43 out of the box it is a little snappier. The ram was cheaper to upgrade. I upgraded the T41 processor, harddrive, wireless card and memory. I works ok.
On the "P" units from what I can tell they have a better GPU and more deticated ram for it.
If I had the chance I would buy a 43P. You might also consider checking out the Marketplace here. I have seen awesome deals there.
Good Luck

Re: T40, 41, 42 or T43
T43/p are far less prone to graphic card failure than their older siblings and they would be my choice...as is evident from my signature.
Even going back to "A" series, "p" models always had superior graphic cards and higher screen resolutions. This is also true for any later model, be it T4x or T6x series.
Hope this helps.
