T41 with 1600x1200 via DVI AND TV overlay?

#1 Post by mmo » Tue Feb 08, 2005 8:29 pm

Hi all,

I recently got a 20" LCD screen that I wanted to attach via the docking station's DVI output to operate it via a digital connection using its full, native resolution of 1600x1200 pixels.

But since IBM's standard driver limits the resolution on that connector to 1280x1024 I applied the patch described at http://www.thinkpads.com/external-video.htm#1600, i.e. I am now using a patched ATI catalyst driver.

But while that provided me with a brilliant display on the external screen, alas, since I am using that driver my WinTV USB device (by Haupauge, see http://www.hauppauge.com/Pages/products/data_usbfm.html) does not work any more. It seems that the TV-overlay does not work with the catalyst driver. The connection as such works, i.e. I can hear the TV's sound (which is also transferred via the USB connection) and when I e.g. change channels, the sound changes accordingly, etc. so the communication with the device works, but the area where the TV image should appear remains black.

This effect is in all programs that I have, that display TV content (Hauppauge's WinTV2000 and Power VCR II), but not in DVD viewers (like PowerDVD). So apparently this has to do with the TV overlay feature (at least I guess so - I am not an expert in these issues).

Has anybody an idea or some experience how to get that working (of course while maintaining the possibility to have the high DVI resolution on the external display)?

Cheers,
Michael
