I have one of these and they work very well. Not quite as fast as the Seagate 7200rpm 500GB drive but not that much of a difference.

Is a Newegg warranty transferable?

Or a WD warranty?

I mean, doesn't one have to have the original sales-receipt in one's own name in order to get either the Newegg or WD warranty?

thanks

The warranty is through Western Digital. Newegg has a 30 day return policy on this hard drive (non SSD hard drives in general?) but sounds like these ones are passed that. You don't need a receipt for warranty purpose, the warranty period started when the drive left the factory. You can look up the warranty status on wdc.com using the serial number on the drive.

I bought the same drive through Newegg on 03/13/2009 and the warranty expires on 03/04/2012. I have been using it in the Ultrabay for movies and music in a 'media center' Thinkpad that has been running 24/7 and it has been great so far - quiet, low heat and noise. I definitely recommend it.
