Access Connections disconnecting on logoff
I have a new Thinkpad X200S and am using the Access Connections program which is very convenient except for one apparent problem. When I am connected to my corporate network via cabled Ethernet, my Windows XP roaming profile should normally be saved on a server as part of the logoff process. However at this point I get a message saying that it cannot find the server location, just as happens when I am not connected to the corporate network. I suspect that this is because Access Connections has already closed the Ethernet connection at this point in the logoff process. Can anyone confirm this and/or suggest a solution. Thanks.
Re: Access Connections disconnecting on logoff
Well, this would be very easy for you to confirm yourself. Uninstall access connections.
Re: Access Connections disconnecting on logoff
Start Access Connections, look for the location profiles, select the wired profile and click on Edit.
In the General Tab, there is a setting that says Disconnect from network when switching ... Try unchecking this to see if that helps. Unchecking it may cause problems with other profiles unless you restart, but at least try it to see.
In the Additional Settings Tab, make sure you have unchecked Start Applications automatically and Default Printer.

Thanks, I did that - and it did not seem to help. So it seems I was wrong to blame Access Connections.Harryc wrote:Well, this would be very easy for you to confirm yourself. Uninstall access connections.

Thanks, I tried those things too. I am not using Proxy Settings. Nothing seems to help so far.jdhurst wrote:Start Access Connections, look for the location profiles, select the wired profile and click on Edit.

Re: Access Connections disconnecting on logoff
There is something else at play. If I start my machine with an ethernet cable connected, it will connect before even logging on. If I log off, it remains connected. This is also the way desktop systems work (no such thing as Access Connections on a desktop).
What happens if you connect the cable, start the machine, but not log on? Go to the server and see if that machine is registering in DHCP (you need the machine name before you start this). While I understand this is not the case for you, the wired connection should not break because of log off.
