Problems with wireless

#1 Post by wantathinkpad » Fri Aug 21, 2009 9:35 am

Hey guys. I haven´t posted here in a while but my computer is four years old this year!!!.

My problem. I am away on vacation in Latin America and my wireless is not working. I am havign a problem connecting. I wanted to say it was because I have a different set up but there are many Americans and people from different countries that are connecting. Since I moved back from college a year ago I have been using windows to configure my wireless. I came here and it was not working. I tried there or four times. I then opened access connections which I hadn´t opèned in long long time (when they updated access connections last spring 08). I opened and set it up using the pre determined static WEP key the hotel provided and somehow it worked. I went to another hotel but it is not working again. what is my problem. Via windows wireless and access connections it is not connecting

Envious that you're holidaying in S America - wish I was there! Which countries are you visiting?

Does your wireless icon in the taskbar indicate the presence of wireless signals from other routers?

If not I'm wondering if the wifi card has become loose inside the laptop, or one of the tiny aerial connectors onto the card is not connected properly / come loose.

Do you by any chance have PC Doctor on a CD with you (I can see you checking before you left - I gotta pack water purification tablets, passport, mosquito repellent, PC Doctor CD!!) and use it to check the wi fi card's working properly?

Alternatively maybe download (via wired ethernet) the appropriate driver and reinstall - if you need a link let us know the TP model number and or the wireless card type.

My wife's T43p often has problems connecting to wireless networks, even open ones. She now carries an ethernet cable with her and asks if she can connect directly into the router.

We can't discover the cause of the wireless connection problem but investigation is not helped by so many connection applications having been used over the years for things like GPS wireless. :(

Different countries has a slight difference in the 2.4Ghz band they use. If the hotel has several APs, use the ones with middle channels and not the end channels.
