T60 not detecting wlan

#1 Post by Progress » Fri Aug 21, 2009 1:19 pm

I installed some firmware for a bluetooth headset and after rebooting I could not detect any wlan network through access connections. I clicked the turn wireless radios on and nothing happened. I even tried it at two locations with no luck.

So I uninstalled access connections thinking the winxp default wlan would work but no dice. It is not detecting any network. Wlan switch is on btw.

I tried doing a system restore but it would not work at any date/time that I tried so there is another problem I'm having.

Should I dl the drivers for the network card and install them on my laptop? Anyway I can restore the system? I'm lost.

Thanks in advance.

I'm either going to look like a total moron here or look very sagely, so here goes:

Isn't WLAN completely different than BlueTooth? I thought the former was that weird cellular connectivity (completely unfamiliar to me, a prepaid cellphone user, although I have it on some of my Thinkpads) and BlueTooth is used for exchanging data - files, pictures, etc.- from a cellphone to/from a computer and for hands-free phone gismos.

They are two completely different things, yes. I was simply providing a background/context for my situation and it included DL and installing the firmware for a bluetooth headset. It may be merely coincidental that the problem occurred right after I installed the firmware or not, I don't know.

The problem persists. I tried using a winsockfix and that did not work. ipconfig doesn't reveal any ip address.

Any ideas?

If it helps, delete (in your mind) the part about the bluetooth firmware install.

Does the WLAN LED indicator under the LCD come up? Is the WLAN adapter properly listed in the Device Manager? Have you tried a live Linux CD?

I would check these first if I had such a problem.
ThinkPad™ X201 / AFFS-120
i5-560M 2.67Ghz, 8GB RAM, Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD, Win 8 Pro 64-bit, UltraBase X200, ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard,
Dell U2713HM (2560x1440, IPS), ExpressCard USB 3.0 (2 ports, flush), Nexus 7+10

The WLAN LED indicator is lit. It only shuts off if I turn the switch off on the front of the computer.

The WLAN adapter is properly listed in device manager and it says it is working properly. Drivers are dated 2005 FWIW.

I have not tried a live Linux CD.

Got it working.

First tried to update the driver but that didn't do it. Then I uninstalled the driver and allowed it to auto-detect the hardware and reinstalled the new driver and it worked.
