T61p running Windows 7 x64 - random BlSOD on batt. power

#1 Post by ShepherdLover » Fri Aug 21, 2009 10:29 pm

Hello, all!

New to the board here, and finally had to stop lurking and sign up because I can't find an answer to my problem. (Yes, I've searched many times, several different ways, and no answers!)

System Config:

T61p
Intel Core 2 Duo T7700
4gig installed ram (NO Turbo Memory)
Nvidia Quadro FX570M
Windows 7 RC x64 build 7100

Problem:
Ever since switching to Windows 7 (first, the beta builds, and now the RC), when running on battery power, I am guaranteed to have a random BlSOD (black screen of death). May happen within the first ten minutes, may be an hour. But, it's a certainty. At one point (back when running a beta build) I rolled-back the display driver to an earlier version, and that seemed to cure the problem. But recently, I've had to update to the latest driver due to an issue using Zoom Player. Now, Zoom Player works as it should, and I again have the random blackouts when on the battery. When I'm using the AC adapter, it's flawless.

I looked at the Lenovo downloads page for Windows 7 systems, and didn't see anything specific to my display adapter.

Any ideas?

Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated!!

you could start with telling us which driver is causing the BSOD. You can disable the reboot on BSOD in system properties, so you can read the error. You might also want to enable the small memory dump, so the minidump can be analysed with windbg.

It's a BlSOD (Black Screen of Death) not a BSOD.

As Ninjaronin18 pointed out, it's the BLACK screen of death, so no memory dump.

Sorry about omitting the driver version. It's v7.15.11.7693, dated 11/14/2008. It's the most recent version I can find on Lenovo's site, for my system.

Also, after posting last night, I went to Nvidia's driver downloads site. There is a recent driver for the FX570M and Win7 x64, though in the footnotes it states:
The following notebooks are not supported in this release (by choice of the OEM):

- Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)
Go figure... :(
