It works:) Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop on TP 770Z

#1 Post by Insomniac1971 » Sat Aug 22, 2009 6:19 am

I got a working Image of Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop on IBM Thinkpad 770Z - with Sound, fullscreen Video and Wifi working.

Is there any place/server I can upload the Image to, so that people can download it freely, and not have to go through all the problems setting up Ubuntu on the Thinkpad 770Z.

Its made with CloneZilla since I dont know how to make distro's - I have made it into an .ISO file for those with 2 CD-Rom drives since you need to boot Clonezilla from BootCD - and a .ZIP file for those who want to put it on USB drive.

There is a few minor things not working in this Image: Microphone dont work; When system is shutting down and everything is unloaded, I get "System halted" - but beside that, it works fine.

But I'm sure there are some with more knowledge about Ubuntu, than me, that can figure this out.

The only changes made to the TP 770Z is: Ram upgraded to 324MB, HDD Upgraded to 40GB, Floppy out and CD-Rom drive in, Touchpoint didn't work anymore so I disabled it in bios.

With kind regards

There is no official file storage area for the Thinkpads.com Forum, though the admin (Bill) has periodically made selected files available through the server.

I have some space over on thinkpads.kiff.ca where I would be happy to host the files, provided that doing so does not violate the GNU GPL, or whatever other license may apply to the software in Ubuntu.

I don't currently use any Linux distros, but I am planning on learning Ubuntu and installing it on my 600X, and maybe now on one of my 770Z's as well.

PM me, or email me if you are interested in this offer.
