Windows 7 on X200

Dear fellow forum member,

I've just downloaded a full version of Windows 7 (from my school's MSDNAA, not beta or RC)
and I encounter some problems after installing windows 7

I'll just listed them here:
- Presentation software isn't even compatible with windows 7. Fn + f7 won't work anymore
- No onscreen display when rising or reducing the brightness
- Volume control goes +-2 instead of just one.


Does anybody tried windows 7 and able to get the driver for it? If so, please share it with me
The problems get more annoying as I speak.

Check the Lenovo's Windows 7 Beta page and see if there's something for you. Hotkey Features for example.

Have you installed the Presentation Director actually? It's not on the beta page but maybe the Vista version will work:

I tried the windows 7 beta page but I get file not found whenever I try to download the hotkey features...

I'll try installing the latest version from device matrices and I'll keep this post updated.

Everything is just like you described.

Presentation manager is not supported under W7 and never will be.
Reporting brightness has been disabled, guess it was the cause of broken functionality.
1 notch on OSD is 2% in Windows sound manager.

I have just installed RTM on my T60. The OSD started working after I installed the System Interface Driver and Hotkey Features, both from the Lenovo's Windows 7 BETA page. All indicators I had in Vista work in 7 too, including Volume and Brightness.

Can't comment on the volume 2x problem as I have a T60 which was the last model to have a BIOS controlled volume, i.e. the volume buttons work independently from the OS - pressing them does not change the volume in Windows sound mixer.

I haven't tried installing the Presentation Director yet. If it doesn't work, a simple replacement is the WindowsKey+P shortcut which brings a simple menu to enable/disable external display and choose between desktop duplicate and extend modes. Luckily it seems to rember the resolutions.

Donzoomilk is right. There was a post about which ThinkVantage software were pulled from Windows 7 due to redudancy (presentation manager and easy eject are two of several programs) on the home page of Thinkpads.com. They will never be supported anymore.

I can't comment on T60, but i had a thread a few months back about X200.
The problem was, that after boot, backlight regulation worked fine but there was no OSD. After standby, there was OSD but regulation broke. In beta drivers they seemed to disable OSD for brightness and everything worked happyly ever after.

If they haven't released any new SI or OSD drivers, it should be just the same.

I have Win 7 Ultimate RTM installed with Lenovo Beta drivers on an X200s and everything appears to work except that I don't seen the OSD of adjusting backlight (I do see it for changing sound).

I was wrong. I have this problem too (running Windows 7 RTM German on the T60 from the sig.).

The brightness regulation works after a reboot (with OSD) but stops if I go into standby or hibernation. After that, I see no OSD and the brightness doesn't change. Even the brightness control from the Windows Mobility Center (Win+X) is gone.

I'll try uninstalling the OSD and see if that changes anything.

Well, I'm not sure. Uninstalling the OSD forced me to reboot so the brightness worked again. Since it worked after a standby too, I installed the OSD again to confirm that this was the cause. Oddly, the brightness hasn't stopped working. Whether on AC or battery, standby or hibernation. Don't know why. I will see if it stays that way and report back.

I'm having power management problems with my X200. Running W7 Enterprise x64 RTM with 3.05 BIOS (no significant changes in 3.08).

I've upgraded to most recent version of WWAN card but even after restart it does not go into power saving mode.

It's localized, but the idea is that USB device didn't shut down and it may break power management. The root hub seems to be the one connected to WWAN card, but information is too scarce. It's just a logical conclusion.

Something is keeping PCIe power management disabled and i can't figure out what, because documentation (WMI, device manager etc) is very scarce. I can't find any tool that can report me the status of ASPM.

It's also reporting that WiFi power management does not work properly, but i guess it's because transmit power is set to default medium. Power profile has it set to maximum power saver.

To check out power managent yourself, run "powercfg -energy" from elevated command line.

I noticed that mute button is still not working, increase 2X in up and volume button using the last hotkey driver (released 10/05).
Summary changes mentions windows 7 fixes but I don't see any improvement since last version.
Anybody has any idea on this matter?

Also, I noticed that there's error recorded in event viewer:
volmgr: The system could not sucessfully load the crash dump driver. (event id 45)

Also, it BSOD by ndis.sys is appearing ocassionally.
Does anyone experience this problem too?

I still couldn't get the hotkey driver functioning correctly.
On the lenovo website download page, it says that hotkey driver need presentation director. I thought presentation director is obsolete on win 7?? THere's also compatibility issue when running presentation director.

I tried installing presentation director but the latest version compains of not able to access windows installer in the middle of installation...

I guess I'll have to wait until the next version surfaces.

Has anyone found a fix for this problem? I tried uninstalling beta drivers and updated all of them with drivers dated 10/22 (PM, Hotkey, Onscreen,... drivers) but problem still exists. Some times I can't adjust the brightness after sleep, sometimes LCD won't come on at all.
