X41 Laptop - screen resets to SVGA when lid closed.

So I just got a used X41 laptop off ebay. I had an Asus 1000HE but wanted something just a tad bigger. I have had thinkpads in the past and so I am familiar with most of the quirks but this one is eluding me.

I didn't get any software and did a fresh install of XP Pro SP3 and proceeded to download just about everything from Lenovo including a firware update. I have set the unit to do nothing when the lid is closed. However, when I re-open it, the screen looks hazy and is clearly at a smaller resolution and I think it's SVGA. it goes back to 1024x768 but all my icons move around and it's driving me crazy. i installed presentation director after the fact but the problem persists - any thoughts?

Update the video driver and the hotkey utility from the Lenovo support page for your model.
