T43 Fingerprint reader error: crypto: mech-not-sup

#1 Post by owenalpha » Sat Aug 22, 2009 5:40 pm

I recently installed a new hard drive on my T43 (WD3200BEVE - 2X faster 8X larger) and after migrating over the fingerprint scanner is misbehaving. Apparently it can't access my saved fingerprints and when I try to enroll or edit prints it gives the following error

User was not enrolled or his data cannot be opened.
An internal error occured (crypto: mech-not-sup).

At windows login the scanner scans my finger and gives a green check but then does nothing. (I can scan indefinitely without being logged in)

Using the fingerprint tool in the control panel shows that the scanner is working correctly.

I've updated to the new fingerprint software, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software, I've updated Client security solution...

What should I do next? Anybody have any ideas?

Problem fixed...

FYI: Apparently the old fingerprint data was encrypted somehow so when I moved it onto the new hard drive the encryption key was lost. When I uninstalled the fingerprint reader and reinstalled it I opted not to delete the old data (the first time I unistalled). Uninstalling again and deleting the old data fixed all the problems.
