Can a T43 LCD be used in a T60?
Can a T43 LCD be used in a T60?
My Thinkpad T60 14inch LCD screen is broken, and I have an old T43 14 inch.
Please tell me if I can use T43 LCD for my thinkpad T60 and how to do that.
Thanks a lot.

Welcome to the Forum.
No dice there.
You'll need to get another LCD from a 14" T60/T61.
Check that you get the same resolution as you have now, i.e. XGA (1024x768) or SXGA+ (1400x1050).
The easiest would be to get a whole lid, incl. LCD.
In any case, you should download the HMM here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 39298.html
That site may be down for maintenance during the weekend, so be patient!
And it's always good to mention the TYPE of your laptop, such as TYPE 2007-AK3 (from the small label on the bottom).

Re: can T43 LCD be used for a T60?
Right, although both displays use the same connector, there are some extra electronic components on a T60 panel. A panel without those (like a one from T4x series) won't work in a T60.

Re: can T43 LCD be used for a T60?
Couldn't find a topic for the inverse problem (T60 LCD into a T43), so here it is:

If anyone knows of a workaround, I am all ears!
PS. By the way, isn't this wrong?

Many people (including me) have easily swapped 15'' T42p screens into T60s, so I reckon the same is possible with T43s too. Is it that 14'' LCDs are different? Of course, LCD cables and inverters have to be carried over.RealBlackStuff wrote:No dice there.

Re: can T43 LCD be used for a T60?
Here's the deal: while T60 relies on EDID to "tell" the board which resolution to put out, T4x and previous machines rely on the LCD cable. Therefore, on a T4x a cable that matches the screen resolution is a must.
Some T4x screens will work in certain scenarios on a T60/p without the EDID flash and/or soldering one on, but as the general rule, there IS hacking involved in most cases when moving a LCD from T4x to T60/p.

Re: Can a T43 LCD be used in a T60?
Actually, as some of the older ThinkPad'ers
may recall, there is actually a way to make a T4x/p LCD work in a T6x/p... see in particular this post and the subsequent post later the same day by expert-forum.thinkpads.com member AlexeyTolstyh, this will explain how you can modify a R5x/p or a T4x/p panel for use in a T60.
Additional (lenghty!) information in relation to this question can be found in the threads Possible to swap R51 FlexView into a T60? and especially this post while you will also benefit from reading the thread R50p and T60/T60p LCD for T41p motherboard and Using T4x SXGA+ LCDs in T6x.

Re: Can a T43 LCD be used in a T60?
I have also rarely happened across T43 panels with the EDID chip, but they were perhaps later models or (for all I know) Lenovo service replacements that were made for multi-use in any T4x or T60/R60. Bottom line, do not count on a T43 panel working in a newer machine...but it might!

Re: Can a T43 LCD be used in a T60?
I once directly swapped my T43p UXGA into a T60p, this was 15" though... and I did a bit of homework first.
It's a lot of work otherwise... especially if you're not confident playing around with panels. Especially with 14" panels-it's just easier to go and find a replacement.

Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

See the thread FS-14" sxga+ LCD screen (cheap) $20 + sh. T61/T60 others - that might be the solution!

Re: Can a T43 LCD be used in a T60?
I have successfully fitted T43 14" XGA screen panel into T60. I'm not sure how or why, but it worked out of the box without any need to flash EDID or do some additional hacks.
However at this point I am unable to identify the screen panel, but the machines themselves were:
T43 (model 2668, configuration was 1.86GHz, 1GB, 40 or 60GB and ATI X300) and T60 (model 1951-A47)
