T61p - installing Intel Turbo Memory 1GB into
I have a T61p 6459-A12. I want to install the Intel 1GB Turbo Memory into it. Is anyone able to assist me in determining where this module fits into the system, so that I can confirm whether or not I will have to remove any other component already installed in order to install the Intel 1GB Turbo Memory?
I have read that it goes into the same slot as the WWAN module. I'm fairly certain that my unit does not have the WWAN module (as I believe if it did there would be an LED status light underneath the LCD screen inbetween the Bluetooth and Number Lock light - which my unit does not have). Does this definately mean that I should have a free spot in my unit to instal the Intel 1GB Turbo Memory?

Re: T61p - installing Intel Turbo Memory 1GB into
Can't help you with where to put it but I can warn you of all the problems the turbo memory installation may cause (crashes, file corruption, slowed performance). This option was either ill-conceived or the implementation was not-quite-ready-for-prime-time!

Re: T61p - installing Intel Turbo Memory 1GB into
look up in your device manager. If you only see the wifi adapter + gigabit ethernet adapter then probably you got a free pcie mini slot just below the left water drainage point. Are there any reasons why you want to install Turbo Memory?

Something to play with. If I can get it to run right it should work well, but I have read about the issues some people have had with them.istudio wrote:Are there any reasons why you want to install Turbo Memory?

Re: T61p - installing Intel Turbo Memory 1GB into
Got a new (to me) T61p and installed a 1GB intel Turbo memory. It seems to be faster in boot time. My other T61 is running XP so Turbo memory doesn't work in it.

Re: T61p - installing Intel Turbo Memory 1GB into
I've already got a WWAN module installed so I am attempting to install a 2GB half hight turbo memory card in the small PCI slot to right of the WIFI slot. It's normally the location for the WUSB which is basically useless since it's a dead standard. I'll post the results and hopefully users with the WWAN slot occupied will benefit. The card arrives in a few days.

Re: T61p - installing Intel Turbo Memory 1GB into
My attempt to use the PCI normally used for the WUSB card is not going well. The device doesn't show in device manager or install. It only works in the WWAN slot. Has anyone else tried this?

Re: T61p - installing Intel Turbo Memory 1GB into
Indeed, with Vista on-board there was no reason to switch it on... but it works much better with Win7 (at least in my T61p with x64 Win7). The difference is more than "noticeable".istudio wrote: Are there any reasons why you want to install Turbo Memory?
Recently I put in HighSpeed (20/20) SD Card (Toshiba) as ready boost device and together with TurboMemory it seems to be a good solution.

Re: T61p - installing Intel Turbo Memory 1GB into
Bump
Did you ever have any succes with the TM module? Do you think the issues where due to the slot or the module?
I am thinking of getting one myself as they are dirt cheap on ebay atm and since I've gotten a habit of exploring maximin-tweaks/mods/upgrades.
So, is it at all possible to use a 2gb or a 4gb TB in a T61? and how about the slots?
I am toying with the idea of installing TM and/or a highspeed CF card (through PCMCIA CF reader) and thus trying to understand what options I have.

T61p - installing Intel Turbo Memory 1GB into
Both my (new to me) T61s have Intel TM as part of their original configuration. Both machines, one running W7 and the other Vista are real slugs to boot up. I have checked TM settings and everything appears to be working fine. Size on both is 1GB.
I have researched a little and found there are PCI Express Mini Cards of 2GB and 4GB available, also made by Intel. I wonder if these would be worth trying - provided they're compatible.
Well, I just found this anandtech review that clearly reveals TM is useless or not worth the expense for most users, that most definitely includes yours truly. Only measurable performance gain is extended (not much either) battery life:

Hope it helps.
