X20 doesn't wake up from stand-by, Win XP

#1 Post by skuehne » Wed Feb 09, 2005 6:50 pm

I've recently reinstalled my X20 with Windows XP Pro. Everything's running fine, except that it does wake up from stand-by anymore. And that's quite annoying ;-)

Closing the lid puts it to sleep, just like it should. But when I open it, the disk becomes active for a split-second and then nothing else happens. No entries in the logs whatsoever. I don't think I have any weird drivers running, it's basically just a plain Win XP installation. BIOS and IBM-specific drivers are all up-to-date.

Any ideas what this could be?

I am experiencing the same problem with my X20 when i have my WLAN card (Trendnet with Realtek Chipset) plugged in the Cardbus slot. Standby works (most times...) when i don't have the card connected. Maybe someone else had this before?
I tried several different Realtek driver versions and have all the latest IBM drivers installed as well.

I'm not having any problem getting in and out of Standby, perhaps you need to install Windows updates.

All the latest service packs, patches, and updates are installed. It also happens without any wireless card installed. So I guess it's not the inactive wireless connection.

Well, I'm going to try disabling every non-Microsoft driver and program that's loaded during start-up. Let's see if that works ...

@skuehne: Keep us informed about any solutions you find. I have tried a lot too, but no success yet... :(

I did have issues with it in the past and just gave up on it and depended on hibernate only. Than, next thing I knew, it was working again. My guess was an update(s) to either windows or TP did the trick.

OK, here's the latest on the standby issues. I did run Windows update to make sure that no patch was missing, then I disabled pretty much everything loaded at startup except for the virus scanner. Yet, the problem was still there.

Next I checked whether there's any recently updated driver on IBM web site. Just to make sure, I downloaded the Battery and Power Management drivers and installed them again. Shouldn't do any harm, and maybe it needed to be reapplied after the SP2 update anyway.

When I closed the lid, the machine went into stand-by - and it did came out of standby without problems immediately when I opened the lid! Wow! I've tested this a few time, running on AC power and battery, plugged into the network and unplugged, no problems.

I'm not sure if it was plain luck or whether the reinstallation of the PM driver fixed it (sorry, I'm not going to uninstall it to find out ;-)
