How To Swap Out Broken Touchpad

#1 Post by psimmond » Mon Aug 31, 2009 7:10 pm

One repair center told me they could replace the touchpad only, but the other told me they have to replace the entire palmrest. It's a little cheaper to just have just the touchpad replaced. (I believe it's a second-hand touchpad.)
Are they telling me the truth? can the touchpads be swapped on a palmrest?

Thanks

yak

The touchpad is screwed to the palmrest (not glued or anything) so theoretically it can be unscrewed and swapped. The thing is that Lenovo considers this a single part (palmrest + optional touchpad + optional fingerprint reader), so if you want to get a new touchpad from Lenovo, you have to order the whole palmrest. However, if you can find another palmrest, broken or something, the touchpads can easily be swapped.
