Trackpoint button programming?
Trackpoint button programming?
I recently got a T41P Thinkpad and am loving it.
My question is, can I reprogram one of the 3(5?) mouse buttons to open a link in a new tab? This, as opposed to right clicking on a link, then choosing "Open Link in New Tab" from the drop down menu.

Re: Trackpoint button programming?
I do this, (in windows), in the ultranav wizard, select center button, choose scrolling and hit advandced, then choose auto select. In ie/firefox it works like middle mouse button, so when you hit a link, it opens in a new tab. I also set the top right corner as a middle-click tap zone so if I am surfing I can just tap that quickly to get it to open in a new tab.

Re: Trackpoint button programming?
Thanks, I appreciate the response.
So, I don't appear to have an ultranav wizard and I'm having a devil of a time getting one installed.
I'm attempting to follow the directions given at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 42489.html but my computer isn't giving me the options they are telling me to use.
All this seems to go just fine:
# Start Windows 2000/XP, and logon with administrative privileges.
# Click Start and then click Run.
# Click the Browse button.
# Select the folder where ThinkPad UltraNav Wizard package is stored.
I click on the file in "my downloads" then, it tells me to:
Select Setup.exe.
but it doesn't give me that option. When I click on the only obvious option it gives me, which is "OK", it brings up a dialog box giving me the option to "run" this program. I go through those motions and when I'm done, it tells me that "clicking finish does not start the installation process. To start the installation process, refer to the installation instructions to complete the process."
Usually, an installation wizard pops up to run me through this stuff, but in this case, the wizard is either unavailable or unsupported. I've never really had to manually install this type of stuff and I'm kinda stymied.

Re: Trackpoint button programming?
and to make it even more challenging... it appears that Lenovo support pages are down.
It's not my fault.

Welcome to the forums!
I've managed to download the program OK, but if you've got problems grab it off my ftp server here.
To get the setup.exe, click on 77.......exe which will extract into DRIVERS/WIN/../directory - make sure you note where it goes.
Go to that directory where you should find setup.exe and follow the rest of the instructions from the lenovo page.

Thanks Nick,
Real life calls for now, but I'll give it a go later in the day.
I appreciate the help.

Re: Trackpoint button programming?
That is a stupid feature of most of the lenovo packages, they unpack to c:\drivers\win(or win2k...) and you need to decipher the name of the folder and run the appropriate program.
Good luck

Re: Trackpoint button programming?
Update:
I have not managed to successfully install the ultranav wizard.
However, I did find a way to open links with one click. I'm a Firefox user and there is an add on called InstaClick 1.4 I've downloaded this utility and it does indeed make links open with one click of the right button(actually the 2 right buttons of the 5 total found on Thinkpads with ultranav).
This add on claims to allow your right mouse button to act like a regular right click any time you're pointer is not on a link. This does not appear to be the case. While you can right click to "copy", it doesn't appear to allow you to right click to "paste". A small price to pay.
I'll revisit installing the ultrnav wizard at some point in the future. It would be nice to be able to configure the ultranav buttons in a more useful manner.
Thanks for the help guys.
