Buying a new W500, Pakistan and Warranty

#1 Post by ozaq » Tue Sep 01, 2009 7:45 pm

Edit [apparently there are some 'Authorised Warranty Service Provider' in my country including a few 'Lenovo Premium Partner']

but i dont know if they will give me a warranty on something bought for me by someone else. Or if these people can do what i need them to do. I saw some pakistani guy running around the forums. Maybe he can help :)

So ? ideas ?

I cannot claim any warranty, i cannot ship the laptop back and forth from my country to where ever their closest Lenovo outlet is (there isnt one in my country) So if my laptop comes out with a glitchy flexy keyboard, i cant replace it. or if the laptop comes out wiht unnacceptable glitches, i cant have it fixed. etc etc ..

So i was thinking of buying something that had a service centre in my country (HP :'( ) which is v.sad but prolly more economical

I would appreciate you guys thoughts on the subject. I apologize for the long post, but this forum has been very kind to me, and i just thought ....

The thing is , i live in Pakistan, Lahore. Mine is a country plagued by much evil. That said, nobody delivers anything because our customs agents, actually take things out of boxes that they like, and send people the empty boxes.

I was going to have a friend of mine, buy a W500 and bring it to me on the way back from the states. He would use who evers credit card he wanted (his own/father/pets , i didnt specify :P ) and pick me up the laptop.

I actually wanted the laptop due to the ruggedness, and the stability and the toughness. The only other IBM Thinkpad i had, came with a Pentium 2 333mhz with 32 mb ram. It was a beautiful machine, and i was still using it recently till its hdd died.

Now going through many posts i have come to some conclusions.

1) there is much consent amongst you all, that quality has deteriorated very very very very much.

2) W500 despite everything, still ships with a 'flexy' keyboard and people have to get it changed if they want to get the old non flexy one.

3) The W500/lenovo is massmarketed/Subject-to-Human-error respectively and there are lots of laptops that have totally unacceptable problems.

4) Which if it does, i cannot have fixed, and i will have a dead laptop in my hands. :'(

The W500 models 4061 and 4062 are IWS eligible, and a service provider is listed in Pakistan -
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo

Terms and conditions -

I own a T500 which is very similar to a W500, it's a great reliable machine.
