T60p freeze

#1 Post by linghit » Wed Sep 02, 2009 1:31 pm

My T60p is freezing several times a day. Sometimes it happens when I have only one application going and other times when I have a few. It doesn't respond to ctrl Alt Del, so I cannot see what processes are at work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

My T23 exhibited similar behavior a while back. It turned out to be a stick of RAM that went Tango Uniform.

You could also try to reseat the RAM after you clean the contacts with an eraser (remove the debris before reinsertion).
And/or run a RAM test with memtest86: http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

Thanks for your advice. I tried one RAM test yesterday, I will try this one today. I have never cracked open a laptop so I would like to exhaust other options first.

Thanks again

I tested the RAM and it was fine. I uninstalled AVG to see if it was the cause and the freezing has stopped. So, now I need some security. What do you et. al think is a good security system (not AVG, not Norton). I would prefer something cheap or fee, but all recommendations are welcome.

Thank you

Recently I praised Avira antivirus. Lately updates take ages and so I have installed Avast. Very impressed so far. 8)

Thanks for the tip, Killer! I have been using Avira (the free trial version). Tried Avast in the past; are you using a free version or did you buy it?

Thanks.
