X61 Replacing and upgrading TFT 12.1" to wxga+
Hello does anyone know if I can replace the 12.1" (1024x768) screen with a wxga+ (1440x900) or sxga+ (1440x1050) screen on my Lenovo ThinkPad X61 7673-66U?
For instance the Lenovo 42T0480 Laptop Screen sold on lcd4less..
Thanks alot!

How do you propose to put a widescreen LCD into a standard LCD housing?

Yes, your X61 has a standard 4:3 aspect ratio screen while 42T0480 is for the X200s, which has a 16:10 aspect ratio, though they are both 12.1" diagonally. Basically, your X61 has a square screen, while the 42T0480 is a rectangle. Round peg into a square hole kind of thing.

just buy an X200s.
the 12.1" 1024x768 panel in your X61s is approximately 260mm x 200mm.
the 12.1" 1440x900 panel in an X200s is approximately 275mm x 170mm.
it won't physically fit.

You can probably fit the SXGA+ panel from the X61 tablet somehow. I think people have done this mod before.

Re: X61 Replacing and upgrading TFT 12.1" to wxga+
It's been done before (there's even an extensive thread on this).
Short version:
1. requires cutting off the mounting tabs as they won't fit (easy with a dremel)
2. requires fabricating an lcd cable as the pinout on the tablet panels are different (by far the most difficult step, as most people won't have the capability to do so; I haven't been successful yet)
3. making everything fit back into the lid
4. requires a modified bios to support SXGA+ (tablet bios will work in a pinch, but certain things will not work)
From my (yet unsuccessful) experience, it would be better to just go with an X200. (but it definitely isn't as nice)
