Sony External DVD Burner

#1 Post by atct86 » Thu Feb 10, 2005 12:43 am

I have an externaal dvd burner, the DRX-510UL.

I opened it up for general intrest and discovered that the drive inside is the one that sony markets for there internal drive the DRX-510A

Does this mean That if i were to buy an internal Dual Layer 8x Sony burner that it would work inside my casing?

IBME that you can stick any drive you want into most powered external drive cases, DVD burners, CD burners, HDs, etc. The only limitation is the connection, e.g. USB2.0/Firewire vs. USB1.1.

Obviously, you wouldn't stick the latest and greatest DVD burner in an external case that only supports USB1.1.

The sony drive came with usb2.0/1.1 and firewire 400 ports.

Would eveyrthing work right or would the drivers be confused with a different drive and same case?

Can you help with instruction on how to open it? It seemed like a snap-on case which I'm not sure where to start. Just want to make sure I'm not forcing it and break it.

Thanks for any help.

peel the rubber feet off, and there are screws underneath.

I guess I got different model. Peeled the rubber, and no screws, but your suggestion had lead me to find the snap on. I got it. Thanks.

Sorry to sidestep here, but what does "IBME" stand for?

Seen quite a few acronyms online, but not this one.
