Bluetooth range: <50cm. Is this normal on a T41?

Subject says it all: Every BT connection to my T41 is dropped if the devices are more than half a meter apart. Very frustrating!

Do other T41 owners observe this as well? I am asking beacuse I wonder whether this is a general defect of the T41 series (e.g. some interference with internally generated system noise) or whether this is just my machine (antenna broken or not connected or such) and thus turning it in for repair would make sense.

You could try checking to see if the antenna is connected to the bluetooth card - just remove the keyboard and check the cable to the card is connected.

The HMM will guide you.

In this way you avoid being without the machine for the sake of an unplugged cable. If the problem persists after making sure of the connection, it has to be something else - perhaps the card (if you ask, IBM will send you that - again avoiding being without the machine)

Thanks for the hint re. the HMM. I removed the keyboard and checked the BT daughterboard and sure enough: the BT antenna had gone off (or maybe had never been attached...).

Now I am getting at least 10m - that's what one would expect!
