Pay attention to what IBM sends you!

#1 Post by Matt » Thu Feb 10, 2005 6:57 am

So I got a warranty replacement HD from IBM a few weeks ago to swap out for the one that's doing the click-click-clicking, but opened the package only today after recieving the external USB enclosure I'd ordered for the cloning procedure.

In trying to figure out why my T42 won't boot from the external drive, I notice the label on the drive itself--in particular, the drive speed. To my dismay, it's a 4200 rpm drive, instead of a 5400 rpm one like the OEM drive. I wouldn't have minded if they'd shipped me a faster drive, but I think I mind the slower one. So, it looks like I'll be calling IBM customer service back to get the correct HD.

The moral of the story: pay attention to what IBM sends you, since they clearly don't!

You surely should check, but I have never known IBM to send a lesser part than came as manufactured. Errors do occur however, so just get IBM to replace it with the correct drive. ... JD Hurst
