T41 may be dead - looking for replacement to reuse parts?

Hello Gents,

I have a T41 that suffers from the GPU problem, and I tried to reflow last night - probably unsuccessful, but time will tell for sure.

Anywho, If I wanted to buy a used replacement Thinkpad where I would still be able to use parts from the T41 as future replacement parts - what are my options besides the obvious getting another T41? T42, 43? T51? T52?

Besides the technically possible options, what used TP would you recommend based on price/performace? I read somewhere to avoid the T43s? Is it safe to assume that if I can find a used T51 or 52, it would be a better bet than any T4x?

Purchase one of the above machines with an Intel GPU, or better yet if your machine is otherwise in good condition, install an R51 board with an Intel GPU.

Thanks Harry for the suggestion. I imagine it not costing much extra to buy a complete machine rather than a R51 motherboards, but otherwise you are right

If I were to reuse memory from the T41, I understand I need a T41 or T42 - T43 and onwards use other memory types? But if that is the only incompatability, perhaps a T41/R51/52 is a good bet?

Also, is R52 the last model type to share similarities with the T4x series - any other models besides the listed ones that are similar or close to it? (So I could reuse parts from the T41)

T43's and R52s use different memory and CPU's vs. T40, T41, T42's. See this thread for more details -

As far as most compatible with a T41, you're looking at T40, T42, R50, R51...and another T41 obviously.
