Switchable Graphic T500

#1 Post by Amiram » Wed Sep 09, 2009 5:41 am

I have T500 and Installed all the driver that I know but still my switchable graphic doesn't work . :(
I Have 2 graphic in device manager (ATI and Intel) but when I switch it nothing happen .
By the way there is no button in power management to switch graphics or anything like that .

I really be glad if someone can help me because about 8 months I buy my notebook but still I can not use that feature.
My OS is vista Ultimate .

Thanks .

Be sure of the following:
1. Have the latest Lenovo drivers installed (graphics, PM, etc.)
2. Switchable graphics is controlled in Power Manager via the PM icon - use the RIGHT mouse button for the menu selection (not the LEFT button). Not the most intuitive design, I will admit.
3. Switching graphics adapter can only be done standalone (not attached to a docking station). The option will be there in PM, but it won't allow you to switch if the ThinkPad is docked.

Hope this helps your issue.

Nice one Ron. You must be getting a lot of practice with that T400 ;).

Glad it worked, considering I forgot to mention the BIOS piece of the puzzle.

The right mouse click on the PM icon isn't the most intuitive action; in fact, the PM icon is somewhat unusual in having menus on both left and right buttons. The key with switchable graphices is to understand that there are BIOS settings that enable the feature, and that Vista is currently the only Windows OS that supports it and that interface is done through the Lenovo drivers with PM being the controlling point. Interesting design - still not sure how useful it is to me (you may have been right, Harryc, to turn on discrete-only; may yet go that route myself).

Yes, liking the T400 very well and the addition of the Lenovo 256GB SSD has been a nice (but pricey) upgrade - did get it at 15% off through my workplace perks, though .
