hi, when i got my laptop, i noticed there was a gap on the left side between the lcd and the base. it's about 1-2mm.
the right side is nicely flush with the base.
is this normal? does anyone else have this problem?
maybe i should be seeing the glass as half full? at least i got one good flush side.

Re: W500: small gap on the left when lid is closed?
Welcome to the forum!
I've used a loaned W500 for about six months and both sides had a slight gap. Having said that, most of the ThinkPads I've owned were along these lines, with the R5x series probably having the most prominent one of them all.

Re: W500: small gap on the left when lid is closed?
oh my god.
you guys won't believe how i "solved" this.
so i noticed that the gap on the left side was growing larger and larger and reached a whopping 3mm when closed.
when i was cleaning the top of the lid, i felt this hard lump on the left-center side. it felt like it harder than the frame. i was afraid the frame cracked/broke because it felt different from the rest of the lid, like a broken bone on the arm if i must use an example.
so, i pushed against it hoping it would pop back in and be straight, and it WORKED! i felt a small click and now my laptop has an acceptable .5 mm gap on one side, and a .2 mm gap on the other.
it was was just a broken frame or poor assembly after all.~ i'm so glad....
