Is awful wireless networking normal?

#1 Post by xxPaulCPxx » Wed Sep 09, 2009 2:52 pm

I've got a T400, with Vista Home 32bit. It has the wireless network card Intel 5350 with WiMAX built in. Vista has all the latest updates applied. Connects to 2Wire 420 router, as well as other routers while on the road.

I have consistent problems with keeping the wireless network adapter connected, here is a description of what happens:

After a full power off reboot, everything will run fine for awhile. Then after closing the lid and letting it go into suspend, the network card will connect with the router for awhile, then drop the connection. I have good signal. If I look in Access Connections, the router will be gone. I click Find and it turns up. Sometimes it will connect again, other times I have to tell it to connect. Even then, it will fail at the Configuring network connection phase. Once I get the connection back again, I'll keep loosing it every 5 minutes or so. Sometimes it will come back on its own.

Also, for some reason it will not suspend when the lid is closed, and will go into hibernate instead. When this happens, I can't get the wireless card to power on. Cycling the front switch, Fn F5, ThinkVantage button - nothing works. Actually, when this is happening the FnF5 screen will just disappear after a few moments.

So, does anyone else have these problems? I cant tell if its Vista sucking, Intel 5350 card sucking, or drivers sucking. I wanted to know if this was common or if I should begin the big time suck of calling tech support.

I just got a new T400 w/XP to replace my Z60t. So far, I have not had the type of problems that you are experiencing. I would call Lenovo. They are usually quick to answer the phone and all you have to lose is a bit of time.
