Warranty Parts Replacement Question
Warranty Parts Replacement Question
I busted one of the clips on my keyboard bezel assembly on the left side, part #39T7475, on my R60, which is under warranty. Would Lenovo send me one or would they require I send it in for service? Secondly would it be considered user damage? I didn't drop it or anything, I just noticed in the other day. It's not bad or anything, there's just a slight gap there. I might pay $10 for a replacement, but I can't find it for less than $50, which seems a bit high for a piece of plastic. Thanks for any help.

Re: Warranty Parts Replacement Question
39T7475 is not listed as a CRU in the parts list online;

That means that Lenovo will not send you the palm rest to replace yourself. I doubt there is a part number for just the clip, so no luck there either. Post an add in the marketplace section with a picture of one of the clips. Maybe someone has it in a parts bin.

Re: Warranty Parts Replacement Question
Thanks Harry.
I kind of figured I was hosed, but it never hurts to ask. It was just one of the little clips that holds it in place on the keyboard bezel itself, so I'd need a whole new piece. I'll probably just live with it as there's only a slight gap.

Re: Warranty Parts Replacement Question
I see, it's part of the palm rest. Still might be worth posting an Ad in Marketplace for the entire palm rest.
Re: Warranty Parts Replacement Question
No it's the part around the keyboard on the sides and top. If it were the palm rest I'd just call and ask for a new one because I think that's considered user replaceable.

My bad. Still might be worth asking if anyone has it.

Re: Warranty Parts Replacement Question
In my experience with Lenovo support, sometimes the service you get on these questionable issues depends upon the agent that answers the call. That being said, if you had a good reason for removing the upper keyboard bezel (like cleaning a dusty fan to prevent a costly service call or to re-seat the LCD cable to clear up flickering) and do a good job of explaining this to the rep., there is a chance they will send you the part. Hopefully, all the reps. know how difficult it is to remove that part and how easy it is to break a clip on that thin plastic (obviously, I done the same!)
Alternately, you could try super glue if you found the clip, with a steady hand and some super glue, quite a bit is possible.
The call certainly won't hurt. If the rep. doesn't send the part, there is certainly nothing preventing you from trying again, say next week. If all else fails, scouring eBay and/or posting a looking for ad in the marketplace should do it. (That part really shouldn't be more than $15 to $20 delivered.) Good luck.

Re: Warranty Parts Replacement Question
Thanks for the heads up. I'll give it a try. It's not like it's a hard job to do, but rules is rules I guess.

Re: Warranty Parts Replacement Question
They will send you most anything except a motherboard or an LCD panel if you can convice the tech you can replace it. If you mess it up, you're screwed.
