Possible to Add Bluetooth to T40 2373-19U?

I have a T40 and I am insterested in bluetooth, I search around and people said that BT antenna could be pre-installed on some models even they are listed non-BT thinpads. I have 2373-19U, anyone knows if this one is pre-installed? According to HMM, it has no bt antenna.

If my T40 is pre-wired, which CDC is good for my machine: 91P7319 (latest version) or 91P7315?

Does anyone know where I can get it in Canada? I browse US IBM site and 91P7319 is selling for US$57.50. Somone at ebay is selling version 2 bt module for US$80 (seems expensive).

If you want to sell your bt module, I am happy to consider...

it would be nice if we can get an internal one and also replace the clear plate.

I am doing to remove the keyboard tonight and check if bt is pre-wired.

okay..I remove the keyboard and don't see white cable (which is BT antenna).

So how can I purchase BT antenna and wire it in the thinkpad? Can someone please tell me?

Download Hardware Maintenance Manual from IBM support site, then search for "Wireless antenna assemblies". It has lots of pictures and step by step instructions on how to take your thinkpad apart.

Either 91P7315 or 91P7319 (Bluetooth II or III) will work in a T40, T41 or T42.

Use IBM drivers for both Bluetooth and modem.

I was told that IF you don't have a white cable thenm you can connect to the wireless cards AUX antenna???

That is correct, others have used the AUX antenna. However, I purchased a $5 Hitachi 4" antenna and stuffed it in with the BT adapter - it works fine.

But if it's not slowing your wireless connection, why then not just use AUX?

Or will the AUX take some of the wireless power?

The purpose of the dual, diverisity antennas is for the adapter to select which antenna is receiving a better connection with the access point/router and select that one.

As IBM puts it "ThinkPad models feature an integrated dual diversity antenna system built into the display for optimal reception."

Since their probably isn't much difference in reception between the two - only a few inches apart around your LCD, disconnecting one probably won't make any difference at all.

In fact, some machines only inlcude one antenna lead and leave the aux connector empty from the factory (i.e., Dell Inspiron 1300).

Since I only use my WiFi Ethernet connection, I preferred the diversity!

The choice is yours.

I will try the AUX and see how much it then will effect on the wireless signal.

If it's to much, I will buy an antenna.....

Buy the way....
I feel that my wireless reception is much more bad, than my brothers.
He has an Dell laptop.

We have tested and there are no daught about that his wireless card recieves on mush longer distance.
Have your heard about this before???

Yes, but ThinkPad's are generally superior in everyway (am I biased?) So it's no surprise. We buy them because they are engineered well. The spec.'s don't or can't always show it, but we believe they are better machines.

Also, it depends on the situation whether or not it matters. If you live in a one bedroom apartment, you'll never notice the difference.

If live in a large house with multiple floors, you might!
