date/time error and bad checksum
date/time error and bad checksum
recently replaced the display on my T30 after an accident. It worked fine for a couple of days now when I boot it takes a long time. Additionally if I unplug the A/C adapter i hace to reset the system time and date then I get a checksum error message that states the default checksum was used instead. Does this sound like a MB problem or is it an easy fix. I tried replacing the cmos battery but that didn't work.

Re: date/time error and bad checksum
The date/time indicates a CMOS battery problem. Check that the contacts on the mobo have not come loose.
And double-check that the replacement CMOS battery is working properly (must have 3.0 Volts).

Re: date/time error and bad checksum
to check the contacts I'm guessing I'll have to remove the keyboard bezel among other things?

With a bit of fiddling, you can replace the CMOS battery from within the main battery compartment.
You may not have that CMOS connected properly. To look at the contacts, yes, you will need to remove the KB-bezel.

Re: date/time error and bad checksum
Problem solved. It turns out putting the backup battery in the T30 is a little trickier than the T23, at least on mine. It appears the connection wasn't seated into the socket when I installed it. Simple fix. Thanks for the info
