Fastest way to fully discharge the battery?

#1 Post by Omegaboost » Fri Sep 11, 2009 4:15 pm

I'm trying to do a full cycle on the battery in a T43 and the system just goes into suspend when it's low on battery and there is no way to disable that in the bios. Do I have to just leave it suspended overnight for a full discharge or is there a faster way to fully drain the battery?

Thanks

You don't set this in BIOS, you do it in Windows. Left click on the battery gauge and change the active power scheme to "Timers Off (Presentation)". This will keep your machine running until the battery is fully discharged.

But instead of doing that, you may want to use the automated battery calibration which does the full cycle automatically. To do that, open the Power Manager by double clicking the battery gauge and go to Battery Information and then to Battery Maintenance. The you should see the relevant option I may not be 100% correctly as I don't have a T4x anymore). Then follow the on-screen instructions.

Then run this program, it will discharge the battery at the rate of approx. 30Ah.

You really don't want to do that. Discharging the battery clear down to 0 volts will damage it. You should only go down to about 1 volt per cell. Use the Battery Maximizer program as the other reply suggested. It knows how to discharge the battery down to the proper level and charge it back up again.
