Price Check - A Unique ThinkPad R60
Price Check - A Unique ThinkPad R60
My R60 is seeming a little on the heavy side of late. I was thinking of picking up an X200 and doing the AFFS screen swap on it in an effort to go lighter. I'd also like to get a SSD, which is relatively useless in my R60. I wanted to gauge the value of my R60 to see if it's worth it to make the upgrade. If the price I need to get to sell it is unreasonable, I can just hang onto it. It's a very nice machine. The major specs of the machine are:
CPU - 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo T7400
Memory - 3GB PC5300
Hard Drive - 500GB Seagate 7200.4
LCD - LG 15" SXGA+ IPS 42T0325
Graphics Card – ATI 64MB X1300
Optical Drive - Panasonic UJ-220 Blu-ray Burner 43N3200
Operating System – XP Pro
Battery - Six-Cell with around 30 cycles
AC - 65 w Adapter
Dock – Advanced Mini Dock w/Keys
I bought the machine on eBay in March. It is still under on-site warranty until next May and I believe is upgradeable for another two years, though since I've had the machine ripped apart to upgrade the screen, the validity of the warranty may be in question. The machine itself is in excellent shape. It has minimal signs of wear. The screen, which I bought from jamiphar, is gorgeous. There's no dead/stuck pixels on the machine or any marks on the screen.
A couple things about it that are worth mentioning are when I took apart the LCD the double sided tape seems to have some of it's stickiness. There's a slight gap between the LCD and bezel on the bottom of the screen. It's not a big deal in my opinion, but I thought it was worth noting. Second, I bought the machine without a hard drive. There's no recovery discs. When I got the machine the COA was half coming off so I pulled it off not thinking I may sell it so soon. I did note the key, which I will pass along. The machine did come with XP Pro. You will need a XP CD, either OEM or Retail, to do a proper activation of the machine. The recovery discs if you have them would work as well.
In a nutshell, I'm looking to figure what my machine is worth. If you have any thoughts on that, they'd be mucho appreciated. Thanks for any help.

I don't beleive selling a Corporate license to a private individual falls in line with any EULA that MS may have had in mind. Please remove that offer.

Well, you've built yourself a very powerful FrankenPad, and you may just come to the conclusion that I had come to a quarter of century ago when I was still customizing guitars and amps...not too many people share a specific single taste for a custom-built monstrosity...as phenomenal as it may look or perform...
That machine is likely worth anywhere from $500-700 in parts alone, but selling it as a whole might be quite an issue...for any reasonable amount. To get the most out of it, you would have to part it out IMHO.
Love the specs for the most part, though. Very impressive work that you're to be congratulated on.
Best of luck with the sale.

Done. I'd just point out I would in my opinion not be selling a copy of the corporate version of XP, but giving the buyer the opportunity to install their copy of XP without having to buy a set of recovery discs or a XP license. Though the sticker pealed off it still has the license. If you were to call Lenovo with the serial, you could get a set of recovery discs. You can change the product key to the correct key that comes with the machine using the activation program, but it does not have to be activated on the corporate disc.Harryc wrote:I don't beleive selling a Corporate license to a private individual falls in line with any EULA that MS may have had in mind. That was my thought too. It goes for maybe $300-400 on eBay in an auction because most buyers don't know what a FlexView is or care. Maybe I could do a buy it now and get some more money, but that's not a sure thing. It's amazing what gets no bids on eBay these days. Look through the completed auctions. If I only would have been there when it was selling, I would have bid.ajkula66 wrote:not too many people share a specific single taste for a custom-built monstrosity...as phenomenal as it may look or perform...

That's still against forum rules. Thanks for removing it.FredGarvin wrote: ...but giving the buyer the opportunity to install their copy of XP without having to buy a set of recovery discs or a XP license. .
