homepage doesn't save... wonder why?

#1 Post by walrusmonger » Thu Feb 10, 2005 9:23 pm

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've actually posted here (mostly lurked) but this one problem has been annoying me so badly, I need someone to save my life!

I've got a T41, and ever since I've upgraded to service pack 2 (about 5 months ago or so?) my IE homepage (google.com) wont save. Whenever I connected with the ol' wifi and open IE, it doesnt take me to google, but rather "http:///".

I change it to google, and it's fine for the time my T41 is on. When I restart the computer, it clears my homepage and opens "http:///".

It's not a major problem, but it's very annoying when you want to go to your homepage and you cant. Any ideas?

On a different note, I've had my T41 for almost a year, and it's been 100% perfect besides that IE thing. Oddly enough, the 4 corners of my LCD lid are all chipped. I carry it around in a plain backpack, and I'm sure I've bumped it before, but not on all 4 corners. Is the chipping of the "coating" common on the lids of thinkpads?

http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Go to that address and download and run HijackThis. One you have run it, save a log file and post it here. I may be able to tell you what to remove to fix this homepage issue...

check Access Connections configuration for your connection profile.... make sure that homepage variable is not specified (or is specified to Google)!

thanks, so far that access connections seems to be working. it's not spyware since I never use this computer for my main downloading (it's 98% a work machine for me) and I run adaware once a week (with only finding a tracker cookie here or there)

thanks for the help guys!

I don't mean to throw this out there as an "IE is the devil" comment or anything, but just as an aside, give Firefox a try, if you haven't already. Once you get used to it, it's extra features and customizability can be quite helpful.

My IE does that, too. But rather than figure it out, I switched to Firefox--it's a better browser, regardless.
