600x Resource Conflict

#1 Post by tworavens » Fri Feb 11, 2005 12:46 am

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a 600x number 2645-7EU on ebay for my son. It came with Windows 2000 Professional installed, but I didn't have the password, so I formatted the HD and installed my copy of Windows ME instead. It seems to work fine, but we are having trouble getting printers to work with it. I noticed under Device Manager that there is a resource conflict under Hard Disk Controllers.

It shows the Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Master IDE Controller with an exclamation point. It also shows Standard Bus Mastering IDE Hard Disk Controller listed twice. Apparently the Master IDE Controller is trying to share the same resources as the two Hard Disk Controllers.

My questions are, is this anything I need to worry about? Could this be the reason I am having printer trouble? What can I do about it?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Chris

The computer is mistaking the USB controller for another hard disk controller.

There's a registry patch (APM2APM.reg, I think) available through IBM's web site that will fix this.

Is your printer parallel or USB? If the latter, this might help. If the printer uses the parallel port, the only thing I can suggest is making sure that the parallel port is enabled.

I don't know what all that registery patch does but I know on the 600E with the famous 3rd HD controller that conflicts with the others.. IT fixes it
