Hi forum,
I have a strange problem with Windows 7 RTM (from MSDNAA) on my Thinkpad T60. I have installed the system interface driver and the hotkey features, and have green indicators on my screen when I click the buttons on the keyboard to mute, turn volume up/down, adjusting brightness of screen etc.
All these buttons seems to work, except for possibility to adjust audio volume.
I can click the mute button on the keyboard, which actually mutes the sound.
I can then click the button to turn volume up, which actually un-mutes the sound.
But when I want to adjust the audio volume by presseing the buttons on the keyboard to do so, the audio volume in windows is not actually changed, even though the green indicator on the screen signalling the audio volume reflects my actions as it is supposed to.
Anybody know or can pinpoint me to a solution?
Cheers
René
Keyboard buttons volume up and volume down has no effect
Re: Keyboard buttons volume up and volume down has no effect
Sorry, I do not have a solution for your problem. But, my T60 machines with Windows 7 RTM and the Thinkpad features installed DO change volume when using the buttons. At least you know now that you should be able to expect it to work. Hope that helps a little bit.vutborg wrote:Hi forum,All these buttons seems to work, except for possibility to adjust audio volume.

Does volume change when using the Windows 7 volume mixer, and other volume controls in Media Player, etc?
Re: Keyboard buttons volume up and volume down has no effect
Actually, I have just observed that the buttons actually DO work - they turn volume up and down! However, its a low-level phenomona. E.g. I open winamp, and have the following three DIFFERENT possibilities of adjusting volume:
1) Adjust in winamp
2) Adjust in Windows 7 Mixer/notification area
3) Adjust by pressing the volume up and down buttons on the keyboard of the laptop
Neither of these settings influences the other, i.e. when I adjust volume in 3), the speaker volume settings in Windows 7 does not change (which I'm pretty sure they did in XP). Its not a problem anymore, it's just strange

Re: Keyboard buttons volume up and volume down has no effect
Yes, that's the way the volume buttons work in T60, whenever on XP, Vista, 7 or even Linux. They're changing the volume directly in the hardware instead of letting the OS take care of that. This is also true for earlier ThinkPads, the T4x series for example.
Starting from T61, the buttons are software based so the global Windows volume changes when they are pressed.
Personally I find the hardware way better, for reasons mentioned in this thread:
