Getting GPS to work with non-lenovo WWAN card
T400 with modded BIOS, Dell 5720 internal card (locked to Verizon I've been told), drivers posted on this site. WinXP SP3.
I get two ports - a modem device on COM4, and a status port on COM5. I've tried setting them on using the instructions on the Dell forum (the AT commands to turn on the GPS) but all I get is ERROR in hyperterminal.
I do not have a SIM card. I have no intention (at this time) of using the WWAN card as a WWAN card. I only want GPS functionality.

AFAIK, the Lenovo GPS application won't work without a SIM card in the SIM slot.rotarymike wrote:I do not have a SIM card.
I am unsure what the role of the SIM card actually is, as with a F3507g the Lenovo GPS function works when a SIM card is inserted, even if the WWAN service has not been started/logged in.

Re: Getting GPS to work with non-lenovo WWAN card
Been beating my head against this one.
I tried hacking the dell Dell Mobile Broadband Card Utility install MSI to not check if it was a Dell system (ordinarily, it fails install with a "not dell compatible system" message). Now my MSI fails install for "Error 2356: Could not locate cabinet in stream: Data1.cab" and I cannot find where it has extracted said .cab file.
[edit] - figured out you have to check (save all streams on save as) in Orca. New modded installer works! (insert monkey dance) Sees card, so I do the GPSHWStatus = 1 registry edit, and boom! GPS in the utility panel. It's 1AM almost here so I'm not gonna check it out outside just yet, but will let everyone know tomorrow how it works out.
PM me for details on the modded MSI.
