replacing 64GB HD with 128GB HD on x300 running XP

#1 Post by rexjak » Thu Sep 17, 2009 2:07 am

I would like to upgrade the 64GB SSD HD on my x300. My x300 came with XP installed but I don't have OS install disks. What is the procedure for replacing the HD and re-installing the OS? Do I need to order boot disks from Lenovo?

I noticed a good deal on a 128GB Samsung MMCQE28G8MUP-0VA. Is that the same as the thinkpad 43N3406? Is it compatible with the x300?

Thanks!

Was the current SSD in the machine installed by Lenovo at the factory? If yes, does it have the original OS load on it? If yes, go into Rescue & Recovery and create recovery media. If no, then you have to order recovery discs from Lenovo, or post an AD in the Marketplace forum here. You can try EBay too.

Ah, thanks very much!

Any idea on whether the Samsung MMCQE28G8MUP-0VA is compatible with the x300?

Yes, as long as the SSD is 1.8" format (which it is) and SATA, then it should be compatible.
