X200s screen/video issues
X200s screen/video issues
Hi
I'm having some screen/video issues with my new Lenovo X200s, runnig Windows 7 x64
You can see the problem here:
http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/9155/screenerror.jpg
I've installed the latest Intel GS45 chipset drivers, and the latest graphic drivers (updated with windows update).
Turning off Aero fixes the problem, but I would really like to fix this issue, and if it's a hardware problem, I need to return it.
Thanks in advance. Help will be much appreciated!

Load up Vista and turn on Aero. If it doesn't fail then it is a software problem.
Re: X200s screen/video issues
I'm having the same issue on a X200 (7454-CTO). Updating to the lastest Intel series 4 video driver hasn't helped, but disabling Aero did.
I never used Vista on this machine, so I'm unsure if this is Win7 specific. My guess is that it's a driver issue. I wonder if Lenovo will be releasing updated drivers sometime this month before the official Win7 launch date?

Re: X200s screen/video issues
I had the same problem on my X200 - resolved with the Graphics (RC) driver from Intel site: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... 1&lang=eng
Have another issue though when watching video, the rendering is not so great - I see square patches on the screen. Hopefully when the official driver is released that the issue will resolve fully.

Re: X200s screen/video issues
Well, the official Windows 7 launch has arrived, but alas the latest driver hasn't fixed the problem (Intel driver 8.15.10.1892).
Hey Intel & Lenovo, what's gives?

Just what I was thinking. When will we see a driver?

Re: X200s screen/video issues
I've got the same problem on my X301. The RC driver doesn't fix it, the current latest driver doesn't fix it either. I've also tried manually installing the latest driver from downloadcenter.intel.com and that doesn't help. Turning off Aero is the only thing that fixes it.

I sure hope there's a fix soon!

Re: X200s screen/video issues
Is no one else encountering this problem? It seems like a rather big issue if it did affect everyone. What could be different in my setup, I wonder.
Re: X200s screen/video issues
Same here, brand new X200 with W7 32bit, latest drivers installed at Intel website, blasted corruption comes and goes like the wind.

Re: X200s screen/video issues
I'm running Win 7 Ultimate x64 on an X200 and haven't had any display problems with any of the Intel graphics drivers to date... currently running the Lenovo supplied 8.15.10.1968 version of the driver.eug wrote:Is no one else encountering this problem?
I do remember reading somewhere that if you have different sized memory cards installed, there was a possibility of video driver issues with the Intel driver for Win 7. I am running 2 x 2GB cards, so didn't pay a lot of attention to the report ... sorry!

How strange. There's another thread on it on the lenovo forum too. I wonder what's causing it.

Re: X200s screen/video issues
I think I got a solution to the problem.
edit: not really my solution as I just saw the link posted earlier where the RAM problem is mentioned
Seems like Intel is aware of the problem.
I have tested my solution for a few days now, running Windows 7 x64 with Aero and playing some Sins of a Solar Empire (it was unplayable before, now it's perfect). I'm using the latest Intel drivers.
It's a RAM problem... In my x200s I got one 4 GB Corsair module and the standard 2 GB Lenovo modules that came with the laptop. Removing the Lenovo module or the Corsair module (running with only one module), solves the problem. My best guess is that the Intel video driver (or whatever system part that allocates memory to the video card) can't handle two different RAM modules?
Can anyone please confirm this? If you have the error, what RAM modules do you have, and can you solve the problem by removing one of them?

Re: X200s screen/video issues
*sigh* I concur
Saw a different post to someone who solved it by using same size dimm pairs, I'm using 1GB+2GB which I'd love to keep, heck I even got another 2GB I could use but I'd have to reinstall to 64bit to really use that extra 1GB =( arghhh
I took out my 1GB dimm for now and surfing on 2GB with no artifacts even when I try to replicate it by sleeping and waking up.

Re: X200s screen/video issues
A guy on the lenovo forums (link above) said he fixed it by disabling Intel VT-d virtualization in BIOS.
I haven't tried either one yet, so can't comment!
edit: it's working well so far! at last!
