T20 2647-95U : Windows 2000 SP4: Power-on switch problem

Power on problem on T20 2647-95U with Windows 2000
I have recently been experiencing problems with turning the laptop power switch on after a shutdown. It comes back on if I let it sit idle for about a day and half. Any idea what the problem might be. The laptop is 9 years old.

When you hit the power button, do any lights come on/flash? The symptoms sound like the BOD problem. See these threads -

Unfortunately there is no known solution other than motherboard replacement.

[b]Yes , just the disk-icon flashes for a sec each time. But if I let the computer sit idle for a day or more, I can turn it on fine... and as long as it's up and running I can do warm reboots fine...

Yup, it's the BOD problem. Nothing you can do except replace the systemboard or the machine. Good luck.
