win7 upgrade disc without receipt?

I bought a new computer. I have the box, it's eligible and everything but I don't have the receipt and the retailer was a guy who won it in a contest

Can I photo copy the barcodes on the side of my box as proof of purchase?

Are you talking about a Thinkpad?

If so, I doubt proof of purchase is necessary. No one ever asks them when it comes to these laptops. The serial number should be sufficient to determine eligibility.

Actually the windows 7 site asks you for it and my manufacturer directed me to the site (HP).
