Z61p upgrade options CPU/camera

#1 Post by robson-ba » Tue Sep 22, 2009 4:58 pm

Hi, i have a Thinkpad Z61p 9452-3NG.

It has a Core Duo T2500 @ 2GHz CPU.
Is it possible to upgrade the CPU?
If yes, can you recommend me the type of CPU and the fan please? Or something else?

There is no built in camera. Is it possible to buy parts and install a built in camera?
If yes, which parts should i buy?

thanks for help

Says in the linked thread that "the z61p doesn't come with either a camera option, nor does it come with a titanium cover option."

well, i can only confirm that, i am using one right now :) That's why i wish to change that.

I have found one thread in this forum where some guy is making a build in camera into his Thinkpad and i am wondering if it was possible for my thinkpad too...
(... even the titanium cover too :D )

Well, it would be tough without parts. It would be a complete custom job..good luck with that.

You should be able to upgrade to a Merom T7600 CPU.

Hi Fred, thanks for the info. Where do you have it from? Would you please post here a link? I would like to check it and look also for other models/upgrade options.

You know which cooler i need for this CPU?

thank you

I don't have any specific information on the Z61p, but the Z61t and Z61m are socketed CPUs and upgradeable as are the T60 and R60. I don't think they would do the Z61p any different, though I've not seen one for myself.

It won't work. It's the wrong socket. You can go up to the T7600 Merom Core 2 Duo.

Is there a reason why a Z61m camera bezel wouldn't be compatible with the Z61p LCD assembly? You'd also need the Z61m palmrest because it has a cutout for the camera.

As for CPU, look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_In ... processors
You can use any Socket M CPU on that list.
