X61S won't install intel 965gm display adapter

#1 Post by qcrystal » Tue Sep 22, 2009 8:13 pm

Hello,
Can anyone help me on this? It drove me crazy.

I have a x61s 7667-br5, after clean installed winxp, followed Lenovo instructions to install all drivers--believe me that is not easy, still there are 2 yellow exclamation marks for the display adapter, which is Intel 965 express chipset with dev number 2A02 and 2A03. I downloaded all the video/display drivers from Lenovo and Intel, searched in the inf files to make sure these dev numbers are included, install/uninstall many times, even tried to remove all other unnessary Thinkpad softwares and reinstall, but the yellow exclamation marks remain there however i tried. I also tried to change CSDVersion from sp3 to sp1 or sp2 to cheat the system, but still not suceed.

Any ideas how to install this adapter? Currently the computer automatically chose a VGA driver, which will not allow me to standby or manage brightness. Your help will be highly appreciated.

You could try the ThinkVantage system update tool. It might automatically find the right driver. I may have run into the same issue when installing drivers for an X60s... the driver matrix on the website either didn't have the right drivers or wasn't very straightforward to install.

I don't recall what I did to solve the problem, but the update tool may help.
